Saris have been and remain the most popular choice of clothing for women in India. A Sari has nothing to do with a particular religion, therefore, no Hindu should become a tear. I am a Hindu, but I have some friends who are not, and seems very comfortable in saris. I also live in southern India, where most women still wear saris, and that includes Muslims and Christians. In fact, I know this woman who buys a large number of saris every time you visit India, and life in the Middle East, so I do not think that would wear sari Islam frowned upon. So please go ahead and enjoy:)
